Common cardiac presentations in Office-based Paediatrics

10 Oct 2024
GP Clinical Theatre 1

Children and young people (CYP) often present to surgeries and/or EDs with symptoms suggesting cardiac involvement. In vast majority if cases, there is no cardiac pathology. I would like to present some of the common reasons of CYP presenting and the red flags that should sign post them towards a simple reassurance and discharge or referral for a formal cardiac assessment

  • Most CYP related ‘heart’ symptoms do not have an underlying cardiac pathology, and the role in primary care of identifying red flags to define and recommend management.
