Introducing the National Primary Care Diagnostic Pathway for Lower GI Symptoms

Introducing a resource to support healthcare professionals to shorten time to diagnosis, reduce variation and improve patients’ experiences of care. The pathway provides information on:
• Considerations to make when taking a history
• Possible presenting symptoms
• Red flags for cancer
• Conditions to consider
• Investigations to consider
• Referral pathways for secondary care
• Safety netting
This pathway has been endorsed by Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Royal College of Nursing (RCN), and Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).

Discover the new national primary care diagnostic pathway for lower gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms to ensure a faster and smoother diagnosis for adults and younger patients.

Endorsed by the RCGP and the RCN.

After the session, download the pathway here: Resources for Healthcare Professionals | What's up with my gut? (whatsupwithmygut.org.uk)

  • •Learn key information about, and how to download, this new resource (published June 2024)
  • •Consider how the pathway may be useful for patients
