Using NICE guidance on pain and analgesics as an opportunity for change: increasing access to supported self-management in primary care

Chronic pain is complex and requires multidimensional approaches to its management both by the person with pain and their practitioner team. NICE guidance indicates the role of medicines has numerous issues and lack of effectiveness for many. Practitioners confidence to support self-management is low and the GOTT project of training and integration of self management skills and resources within a primary care will be shared. Outcomes for practitioner behaviours in prescribing and supporting self-management will reviewed and valued lessons learnt.

  • Understanding role of NICE guidelines in everyday clinical practice.
  • Role of supported self-management and how to address it practically in everyday practice
  • Building confidence in person-centred approaches assessment and reviews to pain management with confidence in skills and tools
