Primary care skin surgery: which lesions to remove and which to refer

08 Oct 2026
Clinical Skills Theatre
Practical skills
Primary care clinicians are increasingly managing skin lesions in community settings, yet uncertainty remains around which lesions can be safely removed in practice and which require urgent referral or specialist input.

In this practical, case-based session, you will work through a structured approach to assessing common skin lesions seen in primary care, helping to build confidence in clinical decision-making and reduce avoidable risk.

The session will explore:

Which lesions are appropriate for excision in primary care
Recognising red flags and high-risk features requiring referral
Common diagnostic pitfalls and how to avoid them
Practical considerations around safety, documentation and patient selection

Through real-world examples and discussion, attendees will leave with clearer frameworks for managing skin surgery decisions safely and confidently in everyday practice.
