Type 2 diabetes is one of the most pressing and preventable health challenges in UK primary care - yet opportunities to intervene early are still being missed. This session brings together leading voices across clinical practice, research and patient-centred care to explore how GPs can identify risk sooner and support meaningful, lasting change.

Health advice is shifting - from generic, one size fits all guidance to care that is personalised, preventative and grounded in real life. In this timely panel discussion, Dr Rangan Chatterjee, Dr David Unwin and Dr Amy McKenzie will examine how this shift can be applied in everyday general practice to improve metabolic health outcomes and reduce long-term disease burden.

The panel will explore the clinical evidence behind proactive, personalised care, from understanding glucose as an early and actionable signal of metabolic risk, to the growing body of real-world evidence demonstrating the potential for type 2 diabetes remission through lifestyle-first approaches. Drawing on frontline NHS experience, research insights and patient stories, the discussion will highlight practical strategies for engaging patients earlier, improving metabolic literacy and supporting sustainable behaviour change.
