Webinar Recording: The 10-Year Health Plan: What does it mean for General Practice?

Webinar Recording: The 10-Year Health Plan: What does it mean for General Practice?

The NHS 10-Year Health Plan sets out a bold ambition: to reshape healthcare around prevention, digital transformation, and integrated neighbourhood teams. As the first point of contact for most patients, general practice will be central to bringing that vision to life.

In our recent Best Practice webinar, 'The 10-Year Health Plan: What does it mean for General Practice', a panel of experts came together to reflect on what the plan could mean in practice. The discussion highlighted four major themes:

  • Leadership in general practice
General practice is being asked to do more than deliver care. From guiding neighbourhood health teams to shaping budget decisions, practices are expected to take on system leadership roles. Many welcomed this recognition, while others raised questions about capacity, governance, and the balance between clinical and managerial responsibilities.
  • Digital transformation and equity
The panel explored the potential of digital consultations, remote monitoring, and data-led care. While there was optimism, several participants stressed the importance of equity and accessibility - ensuring new technologies also support patients who may struggle with digital tools.
  • Workforce and integration
Expanding ARRS roles presents both opportunities and challenges. While they can enhance care teams, embedding them effectively is not straightforward. This opened discussion on how new professionals can be integrated, how services align, and how patients are kept informed.
  • Funding, prevention, and population health
Participants debated the complexities of devolving budgets, prevention-focused investment, and whether new models such as neighbourhood “polyclinics” would be needed. There was agreement that wellbeing and social determinants must be part of the conversation, recognising that many of these factors reach beyond the traditional boundaries of healthcare.

This exchange captured both the ambition and the realities of the 10-Year Plan: a recognition of the scale of the challenge, but also of the innovation, resilience, and commitment already alive in primary care - watch the full recording below:

And the conversation doesn’t end here!
