Ensuring your patients with diabetes have the correct diagnosis and treatment
This talk will use case studies to enable attendees to differentiate between different types of diabetes (Type 1, Type 2 and monogenic), ensure appropriate tests are recommended and understand optimal treatment in each case.
• Use of non-genetic tests ((islet autoantibodies, c-peptide and the type 1 diabetes genetic risk score) in aiding differential diagnosis will be discussed along with the MODY probability calculator and Diabetes Diagnostics App in aiding the correct diabetes diagnosis.
• Key features of different types of monogenic diabetes and how to identify both MODY and neonatal diabetes will be explored using patient cases. These rare forms of diabetes are frequently misdiagnosed and the majority of patients are consequently inappropriately treated.
• The impact of the correct genetic diabetes diagnosis on treatment and quality of life and other family members will be discussed.
