10 Oct 2019
Respiratory Clinical Theatre 2

This session will review the current attention and initiatives aiming to streamline the lung cancer 2WW pathway across primary and secondary healthcare. The talk will pay attention  to how primary and secondary care can work to improve the patient's pathway, to review how lung cancer is staged and managed and provide an overview of treatment options from curative to palliative treatments

  • Earlier diagnosis is a key step towards improving outcomes - RAPID access diagnostic centres can play an important role.
  • Lung cancer screening has the potential to improve mortality but safe and efficient implementation is a challenge.
  • New treatment options for advanced disease are now available.
  • NHS long term plan includes aims to improve earlier stage diagnosis rates and therefore cancer outcomes.
