Evidence-based online support tool – new NHS service to help manage Type 2 diabetes

There are currently more than 2.8 million people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in England and a further 750,000 people are believed to be undiagnosed.

To combat this in an increasingly digital age, in 2019/20 the NHS Diabetes Programme will launch a new online platform that will provide adults with Type 2 diabetes skills to better self-manage their condition by improving access to high quality online education.

Healthy Living for People with Diabetes (Healthy Living), was evaluated in a well-conducted randomised controlled trial funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), which demonstrated significant improvements in patients’ HbA1c levels.

Delegates will learn about the new tool, how it aligns to existing structured education courses for people with Type 2 diabetes and how healthcare professionals (and specifically GPs) can refer patients on to it to empower them to better self-manage their condition and support the sustainability of the health service.
