The CONQUEST journey and beyond in COPD: Optimum Patient Care's (OPC's) quality improvement and clinical trial model explained

08 Oct 2025
Respiratory Skills Theatre

Optimum Patient Care (OPC) is a not-for-profit social enterprise. It has over 19 years of experience in supporting quality improvement activities and research across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Australia.

With a network of over 1200 GP practices across the UK. OPC works together with practices to improve the care and management of patients through ethically approved research. More Recently with CONQUEST and PREVAIL clinical trial, OPC

Our recruiting model includes having OPC clinical staff (through honorary contracts) to support the screening of patients according to eligibility of trial before patients are enrolled in the clinical study.

The CONQUEST COPD quality improvement programme helps practices identify and manage high-risk patients with frequent exacerbations and persistent symptoms, including those without a formal diagnosis.

The PREVAIL trial is an independent cluster-randomised study that will formally evaluate CONQUEST in primary care. The trial aims to generate high-quality evidence on its impact, focusing on earlier diagnosis, personalised care, and improved COPD management in real-world settings.

From this QI programme and Trial, OPC has created a new recruiting model to facilitate the participation of GP practices in clinical trials and to address the current barriers of clinical trials recruitment.
