  • Safe-T® is a new device created to remove the risk of injury from capping used needles. It is designed to be easy to use, without interfering with the normal process of blood sampling using Vacutainer®-type blood collectors. Safe-T looks like any common blood collector tube holder, and it is used in exactly the same way: a standard needle fits to one end, while standard collector tubes fit into the other. The Safe-T requires minimal change in operating procedure from other regular blood collection by Vacutainer method. The benefits of Safe-T come into effect once the last sample has been collected and the final collector tube removed. The operator simply takes the special Safe-T red plunger and inserts it into the holder and presses down until it clicks. The effort required is no more than inserting a standard collector tube (Vacutainer). This ?click’ signals that the needle has withdrawn from the patient automatically, and is now safely encapsulated, with the plunger, inside the holder. The used device with the encapsulated needle can now be disposed of in the sharps bin in the standard way.
