Job summary.

As an occupational therapist, you will work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based interventions and developing personalised care plans. Key responsibilities.

 

Clinical assessment and intervention.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, cognitive, and emotional capabilities to determine their needs and goals.
  • Develop and implement individualised treatment plans designed to improve patients' daily living skills, functional independence, and overall well-being.
  • Utilise a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities to address diverse conditions, including musculoskeletal disorders, neurological impairments, and mental health issues.

 

Patient-centred care.

  • Provide expert guidance and support to patients and their families, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care and rehabilitation.
  • Educate patients on adaptive techniques, assistive devices, and environmental modifications to enhance their independence and participation in everyday activities.

 

Multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Work closely with GPs, physiotherapists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated and holistic care.
  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and care planning sessions to ensure coordinated and effective treatment strategies.

 

Rehabilitation and recovery.

  • Design and deliver rehabilitation programmes tailored to individual patient needs, focusing on improving functional outcomes and supporting recovery.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimise results and address any emerging issues.

 

Community engagement.

  • Contribute to community health initiatives and public health campaigns, promoting awareness of occupational therapy and its benefits.
  • Collaborate with local organisations and support services to enhance community resources and support for patients.

 

Compliance and documentation.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with NHS policies, care quality commission (CQC) standards, and general data protection regulation (GDPR) requirements.
  • Ensure all clinical activities adhere to regulatory and professional standards.

 

Continuous professional development. (CPD)

  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including attending relevant courses, workshops, and conferences to stay current with advancements in occupational therapy.
  • Pursue additional qualifications or certifications that enhance clinical skills and expertise.

 


 

Person Specification.

 

Qualifications and experience.

·        Degree in occupational therapy or equivalent qualification.

·        Registration with the health and care professions council (HCPC) or relevant professional body.

  • Significant post-registration experience in a clinical setting, with a proven track record in delivering effective occupational therapy interventions.
  • Experience working in a variety of healthcare environments, including primary care, community settings, and inpatient care.

 

Skills and competencies.

·        Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

·        Proficient in developing and implementing tailored treatment plans and therapeutic interventions.

·        Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

 

Knowledge.

·        In-depth understanding of occupational therapy principles, techniques, and best practices.

·        Comprehensive knowledge of NHS policies, clinical guidelines, and legal and ethical frameworks governing occupational therapy practice.

·        Awareness of current trends and innovations in rehabilitation, assistive technologies, and patient care.

·        Familiarity with public health issues and strategies for addressing health inequalities.
