Job summary.

 

Are you a skilled pharmacy technician with a passion for precision and excellence in patient care? Join our team and play a crucial role in transforming healthcare delivery across the UK. as a pharmacy technician, you will be at the forefront of pharmaceutical care, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications. You will collaborate closely with pharmacists and healthcare professionals, utilising your expertise to support patient health and well-being. This dynamic and challenging role offers an opportunity to work in diverse settings, from bustling urban centres to rural communities, making a tangible impact on patient outcomes and public health.

 


 

Key responsibilities.

 

Dispensing and medication management.

·        Accurately dispense medications according to prescriptions, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.

·        Manage the preparation and labelling of medications, including blister packs and other forms of medication administration aids.

·        Monitor and manage medication stock levels, ensuring the availability of essential drugs and reducing wastage.

 

Patient care and support.

  • Provide expert advice and support to patients on the safe and effective use of medications, including potential side effects and interactions.
  • Conduct medication reviews, identifying and resolving any issues to optimise patient therapy and adherence.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of personalised care plans, working collaboratively with patients and healthcare teams

 

Quality assurance and safety.

  • Maintain high standards of safety and quality in all aspects of pharmacy practice, adhering to NHS policies and guidelines.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping in compliance with regulatory requirements.

 

Technical and administrative support.

·        Assist pharmacists in the preparation of aseptic products, such as intravenous medications and chemotherapy agents.

·        Support the implementation and maintenance of electronic prescribing and dispensing systems.

·        Manage administrative tasks, including inventory management, ordering, and maintaining accurate records of controlled drugs.

 

Education and training.

  • Provide training and mentorship to junior pharmacy staff and students, fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in pharmacy practice and healthcare, engaging in continuous professional development activities.

 

Collaboration and communication.

  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of pharmacy services and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues to ensure seamless care delivery.

 


 

Person Specification.

 

Qualifications & experience.

·        Registration with the general pharmaceutical council (GPhC) as a pharmacy technician.

·        NVQ Level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent qualification.

·        Minimum of two years of experience in a pharmacy setting, with experience in both community and hospital environments preferred.

·        Specialist training in areas such as aseptic dispensing, oncology, or mental health.

 

Skills and competencies.

·        Basic IT skills, including proficiency in microsoft office and electronic health record systems (e.g., EMIS or SystmOne).

·          Exceptional manual dexterity and precision in performing blood collection procedures.

·        Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

·        Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, ensuring accurate specimen collection and data entry.

 

Knowledge.

·        Awareness of public health initiatives and strategies to improve medication safety and patient outcomes.
