Job summary.

Key responsibilities.
Specimen collection.
·
Perform venepuncture
and capillary punctures to obtain blood samples from patients of all ages,
including infants and the elderly, ensuring minimal discomfort and maximum
efficiency.

Accurately label and
process specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to strict protocols to
maintain sample integrity.
Patient interaction.
- Provide exceptional care and reassurance to
patients, explaining procedures clearly to alleviate any anxiety and
ensure a positive experience.
- Uphold the highest standards of patient
confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Clinical support.
- Collaborate closely with healthcare
professionals, including nurses, doctors, and laboratory staff, to ensure
the smooth flow of diagnostic services.

Quality assurance.

collected, including patient information, test requisitions, and
processing details, using electronic health record systems.

support efficient laboratory operations and patient care.

attending training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and stay
current with advances in phlebotomy and laboratory practices.

Person Specification.
Qualifications & experience
·
Completion of a recognised phlebotomy training
programme or equivalent certification.
·
Basic life support (BLS) certification is
preferred.
·
A minimum of one year of experience as a phlebotomist in a
healthcare setting, preferably within the NHS or a similar environment.
Additional & experience
·
Specialist training or experience in pediatric phlebotomy
or working with patients with special needs
·
Experience in high-volume clinical settings, such as
hospitals or large GP practices, handling diverse patient populations.
Skills and competencies.

Basic IT skills, including proficiency in microsoft office and electronic health
record systems (e.g., EMIS or SystmOne).
·
Exceptional manual
dexterity and precision in performing blood collection procedures.
·
Excellent
communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and work

Strong attention to detail and organisational
skills, ensuring accurate specimen collection and data entry.
