Becky works in a deprived inner city area in County Durham and is the lead GP for pain management in the practice. She is a GP trainer and local GP Pain Management specialist advising the local primary care network on pain management locally. Becky note the highest prescribing rate of opioids and gabapentinoids in the North East in 2019 and recognised the ineffectiveness of these drugs. She and the team collaborated with University of Durham 2019-1023 and Live Well with Pain (LWWP) to identify a programme of personal care for people with pain with focus on presrcibing less medicines and increasing self-management support, the Gabapentinoid and Opioid project (GOTT) programme. In 2021 teh Academic Health and Science Network awarded a Bright Ideas award for primary care education to Becky and her team and LWWP for the project outcomes.
