Carmelo Insalaco is the co-founder and CEO of Rapid Health, which pioneered autonomous clinical triage and appointment booking in the NHS. Its Smart Triage platform, the first of its kind in NHS general practice, has been live since 2023 and is used by hundreds of GP practices in over 75% of ICSs, completing tens of thousands of triages every day.
Carmelo brings over 15 years in digital transformation and commercial strategy, including roles at Xerox, GE Healthcare, International SOS and Doctor Care Anywhere. He established GE Healthcare's AI & Digital Centre of Excellence, work that was recognised by Apple CEO Tim Cook at WWDC. He was an early adviser to Uber and mentors founders in health technology and the life sciences.
An NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellow, he works with NHS bodies and policymakers to shape policy and standards for the safe adoption of autonomous triage in the NHS. He holds a first-class BSc in Computer Science and is fluent in English and Italian. Outside work he enjoys photography and time with his wife and three children.
