Ellen Nicholson, a registered nurse and Queen’s Nurse, joined NHS Resolution in April 2020 as the Safety and Learning Lead for General Practice. Her role works collaboratively with general practice and the Integrated Care Systems in England, to maximize learning from claims, reduce any future harm and support early and effective engagement within primary care. As a Queen’s Nurse, Ellen is passionate about improving patient care through lessons learnt, education and sharing information to the workforce to ensure safe and effective services. Ellen has been a registered nurse since 1991. She graduated from Bournemouth University with a BSc (Hons) and an MA in Advanced Practice and has worked across directorates in primary, secondary and community care in a variety of senior roles focusing on patient safety, education and workforce. Prior to joining NHS Resolution, Ellen was previously course director and lecturer at London South Bank University in the primary and social care department and an executive nurse manager for a GP Practice at scale. Ellen is the former co-chair of the Royal College of Nursing General Practice Nurse Forum steering committee and has been involved in National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines and standards committees, as well as the Queens Nursing Institute aspiring leaders programme. She is an RCNi and Health Service Journal (HSJ) finalist, a judge for the annual RCNi nursing awards and The General Practice Awards and has published journal articles on nursing and the workforce.
