National Safety and Learning Lead – General Practice, NHS Resolution
Ellen Nicholson is a registered nurse and Queens nurse who recently joined NHS Resolution as the Safety and Learning Lead for General Practice. Her role is to collaborate with General Practice, to maximize learning from claims, reduce any future harm and support early and effective engagement within primary care. As a Queens Nurse, Ellen is passionate about improving patient care through lessons learnt, education and sharing information to the workforce to ensure safe and effective services. Ellen started her career as a registered nurse in Wiltshire and has worked across a range of primary and secondary care organisations across Southern England, London and abroad. Ellen holds a Masters is Advanced Practice and prior to being appointed has worked in primary and community care, out of hours and walk in centre care and respiratory medicine, most recently as course director and lecturer at London South Bank University in the primary and social care department and as an executive nurse manager for a GP Practice at scale. She is the current chair of the Royal College of Nursing General Practice Nurse Forum steering committee and has been involved in National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines and standards committees as well as the Queens Nursing Institute. Ellen has written various articles on nursing and the workforce and has successfully presented at national conferences, and was a finalist with City & Hackney GP Confederation C.I.C in the 2017 Health Service Journal awards and with the General Practice Nurse forum at the 2019 RCNi awards.
