Fiona is a Registered General Nurse with 40 years of experience. For 30 of those years, she has worked as a Practice Nurse, developing an interest in diabetes since completing her Diabetes Diploma at Huddersfield University in 2002.
She has run diabetes clinics in primary care since then, leading to her becoming the diabetes lead in general practice.
Her educator career began in 2009 when she trained as a nurse educator for the pilot of the national diabetes prevention programme.
She feels blessed now to be able to combine her two passions: educating and caring for people with diabetes and has worked with the EDEN team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre for 6 years.
Her work with clinical pharmacists, ‘COMPLEMENT’ (complete mentoring and diabetes education for clinical pharmacists) has won several awards. From this successful programme, COMPLEMENT PLUS was developed and has also won several major awards.
