With over 30 years in nursing, I currently work as an Independent Nurse Practitioner . My career journey has taken place over several sectors including primary health women’s health and chromic disease management. Entering the academic sector after qualifying as teacher, I then became a Lecturer/Practitioner in Practice Nursing at Oxford Brookes University developing the first English National Board Practice Nurse Course.
I then took up the position of Health Care Service Manager at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire. My role included overseeing occupational health and safety management for the evacuation trials on the newly launched Airbus A380.
After moving to Barbados in 2002. My professional career in Barbados began as a tutor at the Barbados Community College, teaching and co-ordinating student nurses, I also formulated and the co-ordinated the curriculum for the first ever accredited Paramedic Course in the Caribbean.
In 2008 it was health outcomes research that drew me to become the Registrar for the Barbados National Registry for Chronic Non-communicable Disease (BNR) the first multi-disease registry in the Caribbean. The alliance of roles worked very well and in 2011 I returned to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), after establishing a successful private nursing agency business, with a large cadre of support from the medical fraternity.
Some notable achievements – being asked by the Vanderbilt University, USA to come and present about the role of the Nurse Practitioner in disaster management, As CEO , managing various high-end charity balls, film premieres and community fundraising events, established the 'Go Red for Women' an advocacy public health campaign in the Caribbean.
2017 saw me back in the UK and establishing my own company Marvac Health Ltd to provide wellness services. HAYDEN is the latest trailblazing concept which now takes nursing for what it truly is to supports its own.
