The speaker qualified from Cambridge and The London Hospital in 1975, training at St Bartholomew’s and Salford Royal. MD thesis publication ‘Mechanisms of diarrhoeal disease.’ Appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Royal Bolton Hospital in 1990, he pioneered collaborative, primary, secondary and community liver, psychiatry and psychology alcohol and gastrointestinal care, publishing 120 papers and the book ‘Understanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome.’ As British Society of Gastroenterology Alcohol Lead, he coined the term ‘Alcohol Care Teams,’ publishing 12 papers providing the evidence-base. He was Adviser to the CMO, DHSC, Home Office, PHE and NHS England and is a Non-Alcoholic Trustee for Alcoholics Anonymous.
