Specialist Gastroenterology Community Dietitian, Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
Marianne Williams is a specialist gastroenterology community dietitian working for Somerset Partnership NHS Trust. Having worked as part of an integrated care team to set up a new IBS patient pathway for Somerset in 2012, she then established the first UK ‘Dietetic-Led Primary Care Gastroenterology Clinic’. In 2016 Marianne and her colleague won the prestigious Shared Learning Award from NICE for their work with the IBS in Somerset. Marianne is now pioneering the use of webinar-based patient education in order to help reduce unnecessary duplication of information and reduce the burden on both primary and secondary care. She is also working with NHS Digital and NHS UK to look at expanding the use of webinars nationally and the Somerset IBS First Line Advice webinar created by her team is now on NHS UK as a pilot for any NHS department or CCG to use nationally free of charge within their own IBS pathways. Marianne was awarded Allied Health Professional of the Year 2018 from NHS England and her she and her team won the NHS Digital AHP Digital Practice Award. She has been shortlisted for the 2019 national Digital Health Outstanding Contribution Award.
