Nicola Gitsham
Head of Healthcare Inequalities, Improvement and Personalisation,
NHS England
Nicola is the Head of Social Prescribing at NHS England and NHS Improvement where she leads the programme supporting social prescribing link workers, primary care networks (PCN) and integrated care systems (ICS) to develop social prescribing across England. She trained originally as an occupational therapist and her career has focussed on leading complex national transformation programmes over the last two decades that have informed policy and practice and supported people to have greater choice and control over their lives.
This includes NHS England and NHS Improvement’s Personalised Care’s demonstrator programme which developed the Comprehensive Model of Personalised Care - one of the five key practical changes for all health and care systems in the NHS Long Term Plan. Nicola is passionate about ensuring social prescribing supports people of all ages who are most at risk of health inequalities, cross sector partnership and developing the link worker workforce.
