Professor Pali Hungin, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle university, UK, is a founding member of the UK and European Primary Care Societies of Gastroenterology. He has long standing experience in primary care and as a hospital practitioner and is Chair of the ROME IV Primary Care Committee on GI problems. He served on the Scientific Committee of United European Gastroenterology (UEG) and has published widely on the interface between primary and secondary care clinical problems and the barriers to evidence-based care, including the management of constipation, a troublesome problem for many patients and a challenge for clinicians. He has a particular interest in the earlier detection of disorders and the role of generalists in ensuring good quality care.
