Professor Avery is National Clinical Director for Prescribing. He is also a GP in Nottingham and Professor of Primary Health Care at the University of Nottingham. He was awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Year’s Honours list. He is passionate about ensuring the safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines and has worked in partnership with the pharmacy professions, other healthcare professionals and patients over 30 years to drive forward research and policy development in prescribing and patient safety. In his current National Clinical Director role, it provides clinical leadership for the implementation of the National Overprescribing Review.
